In short

Good Indian wedding invitation wording names who is inviting, the couple and their parents, then gives each function's date, time and venue. Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Christian families usually begin with a religious blessing. Below are samples you can copy and change, plus lines for RSVPs and WhatsApp.

What the wording should include

  1. 01A blessing or religious symbol, if your family uses one.
  2. 02Who is inviting: usually parents or the couple themselves.
  3. 03The couple's names, often with their parents' names.
  4. 04Each function's name, date, time and venue.
  5. 05How to reply, and by when.
  6. 06Practical notes, such as dress code or a head covering.

Frequently asked questions

Whose name goes first on an Indian wedding invitation?

Often the host family's child comes first, so on the bride's family's invitation her name is first. Many families print separate versions for each side.

Should you include parents' names?

Most traditional invitations do. Couples hosting their own wedding sometimes leave them out or use 'together with their families'.

Can invitations be in Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu?

Yes. Many families use both English and their own language so that elders and younger relatives can read it easily.
