Sangeet, mehndi & jaago invitations

A sangeet, mehndi or jaago invitation is for the celebrations before the wedding: music, henna, giddha and bhangra. It should feel playful, give the time and place (often a family home), set a colourful dress code, and tell guests to come ready to dance.

Tips from families who've done it

  • Use a separate invitation if the guest list is smaller (e.g. close family only).
  • Midnight Mehfil and Marigold are the most festive designs for these nights.

Sangeet, Mehndi & Jaago invitation FAQ

What is a jaago?

A jaago ('wake up') is a Punjabi pre-wedding night where relatives dance through the neighbourhood carrying a decorated brass pot (gaggar) topped with lit lamps, singing boliyan to announce the wedding.

Is the sangeet the same as the mehndi?

They're different events that are often combined. Mehndi is the henna ceremony; sangeet is a night of music and dance. Many families hold them the same evening.
